Autumn Season 2015: dates for diaries

Here is some advance notice of current concert plans this autumn.

Saturday 19 September: Music by the Bach Family, with Music for Awhile: Margaret Faultless (violin), Rachel Stroud (violin) and Tom Foster (harpsichord). This concert is generously sponsored by The Cecil King Memorial Foundation enabling all proceeds to go towards the upkeep of the church.

Thursday 24 September: Recital by Felicity Lott, Michael Collins and Michael McHale (Tunbridge Wells International Music Festival)

Saturday 10 October: "Evening in the Palace of Reason" - Johann Sebastian Bach at the Court of King Frederick the Great, with William Summers (flute), Diane Moore (violin), Ibrahim Aziz (viola da gamba) and Yeo-Yat Soon (harpsichord).

Saturday 17 October: Carl Nielsen 150th Anniversary Recital, with Peter Arnold (piano) and Liz Partridge (violin).

Spring Concert, 25 April

Saturday, 25 April, 7:30pm

For the Spring season, we present a concert of favourite works from the cathedral repertoire, with the King Charles Singers.  We'll be singing music from across the centuries, and showing how the English choral tradition benefits so greatly by its imports from abroad!

This event is to raise finds for the next concert season, so all support is hugely welcome.

The King Charles Singers are accompanied by Michael Bacon.

Tickets may be purchased on the door, at £10. There is no charge for under-18s. Drinks will be available.

Soundness Festival

For Music at King Charles, 2014 was a magnificent year. Many thanks to all our supporters, who were able to enjoy music by the Temenos Chamber Choir, the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble, Nana Mzhavanadze (voice), Martin Fogel (guitar), Ken Aiso (violin), the Pentagon String Ensemble, Follia, Yeo Yat-Soon (harpsichord), the Dulcinea String Quartet, Ellen Smith (harp), Michael Grant (clarinet), the Schubert Ensemble, Michael Collins (clarinet), Nigel Clayton (piano), the RPO Soloists (leader Clio Gould), Margaret Faultless (violin), Kate Semmens (soprano), Robin Jeffrey (lute), Steven Devine (harpsichord), and the King Charles Singers.
Next year, 2015, already has some exciting prospects. We look forward to letting you know!
In the meantime, we wish all lovers of chamber music a very Happy Christmas.

There's a hugely varied programme with something for everyone; old favourites like White Christmas and The Snowman, classics like Corelli's Christmas Concerto and extracts from Handel's Messiah, and traditional carols for audience.

Tickets are just £11 in advance (£12.50 on the door) and it's FREE for children.

The members of the Pentagon Ensemble have performed as Principal players with orchestras including London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Halle Orchestra and Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra. As chamber musicians they have collaborated with such artists as Alfred Brendel, Thomas Zehetmair, Ruth Killius, Heinz Holliger, Christian Zacharias, the Soloists of the Philharmonia and the Soloists of the LPO.

Ellen Smith is a professional singers and harpist, and regularly plays for orchestral concerts and ensemble engagements. Particular highlights include performances of Britten's Ceremony of Carols in Westminster Cathedral and a Debussy world première conducted by Charles Hazelwood for the Broomhill Trust. Ellen enjoys an international career and has performed at the Salzburg and Istanbul Festivals and extensively throughout Europe.

Congratulation to everyone who contributed to The King's Violin - a the magnificent concert featuring the last surviving violin from Charles II's court band.
Pictured at the concert are the mayor and mayoress, Mr & Mrs Julian Stanyer, with Margaret Faultless and the historic instrument.

The King's Violin: a historic event for Tunbridge Wells. Court music of the English Baroque, concerning the visits of Charles II and Queen Catherine to the wells in 1663 and 1666. With eminent early music specialists Margaret Faultless (violin), Kate Semmens (soprano), Robin Jeffrey (lute), Steven Devine (harpsichord).
